Cultural advisor, art director and freelance photographer, he has been working in
Palermo for 26 years.
He started his studies in law at the
University of
Palermo and in 1980 he started his career as TV reporter by hosting for 2 years the political and cultural talk show “Il Sindaco risponde” - The Mayor Answers - for TRM, a local TV channel.
He also worked for the press office of the Mayor of Palermo and the Tourism and
Entertainment
City Councilor from 1980 to 1982.
The experience gained over these 3 years in the communications sector and his talent for organizing events on political issues and especially on culture led him to work full-time as a producer and organizer of events and as an art and cultural consultant for public and private institutions.
These include many Sicilian municipalities and provinces: The City and Regional Province of Palermo, the Region of Sicily, several Public Tourism Departments among which those of Palermo and Monreale, Erice, Naxos, and Messina; and the Provincial Authorities for Tourism Promotion of Palermo, Catania, Trapani and
Caltanissetta .
He also collaborated with the Valle D’Aosta Region as well as with Swiss authorities (Ticino Canton) and the Trentino Alto
Adige Region for several tourism agencies. Most importantly, he started to collaborate with Palermo's Teatro Massimo Public Service Company (promotional activities office) for 7 years from 1987 to 1993.
He participated in several seminars and courses on tourism and culture and attained a PhD in Art Management.
After the experience gained in more than 10 years of activity, he decided to focus on projects also in the Education, Tourism and Social Policies sectors that meet with success.
In 2001 the Cultural Heritage Dept. of the Region of Sicily, in the light of his professional experience, put him at the head of a high-profile music event to be organized in locations of great tourist and cultural interest throughout
Sicily .
In that same year the
Municipality of
Santa Flavia selected him as consultant for the town's summer events. His collaboration with the town of Santa Flavia (Prov. of Palermo) was further consolidated the following year (2002) when, after a selection by qualifications and professional experience, he was appointed to the position of art and organizational director of the
Municipality of
Santa Flavia .
In September 2002, after 20 years of activity, he was appointed the art direction for the international classical, sacred and gospel music show “Incontri d’Arte” - Artistic Encounters - a promotional and tourism project sponsored by the Tourism, Communications and Transportation Dept. of the Region of
Sicily . The event met with great success nationwide for which he was awarded an honorable mention by the Regional Tourism and Entertainment Dept.
However, in the light of the success, the initiative was repeated in 2003 and 2004 by the Regional Cultural Heritage Dept. and in 2005 and 2006 by the City of Palermo, while in 2007 the event was organized thanks to the collaboration of the European Union, the Town of Santa Flavia, the Mandralisca Museum Foundation in Cefalù and the "Accademia Filangeri" cultural institution.
In 2004 he was assigned the art direction of an event sponsored directly by the Regional Tourism Dept.: “Pasqua in Sicilia” - Easter in Sicily - with concerts in many sites of great historical and artistic interest throughout
Sicily .
To be honest, all the initiatives organized by Giuseppe Di Franco over the 25 years of his career with great enthusiasm have always met with success.
Among his many activities, he is still an active player on the culture scene. In particular, he has been the art director for the “Incontri d’Arte” - Artistic Encounters - event which has reached its 7th edition and cultural advisor to the
Municipality of
Santa Flavia.
He also collaborates with the
Mandralisca
Museum Foundation in Cefalù for projects on museum spaces.
As a freelance photographer he has organized two photography shows of great success: “Santa Flavia e dintorni” - Santa Flavia and Surroundings - (2006) and “Scorci Siciliani” - Sicilian Glimpses (2007-2008).
His passion for classical and jazz music has led him to study saxophone (contralto, and soprano) under the guidance of the Maestro Giuseppe Palma, professor at the G. Bellini Conservatory of Palermo.
